Two shows saw for the first time tonight (and for where-the-heck-is-the-remote type reasons, on the same channel: SciFi), and which are worth watching — albeit for spectacularly different reasons:
- Who Wants To Be A Superhero. With Stan Lee (yes, that Stan Lee). These people are serious. This is train-wreck delusion beyond even Jerry Springer, but it has heart, and it doesn’t actually pretend to be serious (to the point where it actually stands not only as a parody of itself but as a parody of all current reality-show lunacy… in that serious/parody/lunacy sense, it seems currently rivaled only by Scrubs).
- Mind Control with Derren Brown. This guy is a modern-day Houdini with a large dollop of The Amazing Randi on top. To put it another way: he’s David Blaine without the mystique.
Highly recommended.
